About this month
Low season (nationwide generalization)
The rainy season begins in most of the country, though showers are often short, heavy afternoon downpours rather than all-day rain. Landscapes turn green and it's a quieter, cheaper time to travel in most regions.
Visakha Bucha Day usually falls in May and carries a nationwide ban on alcohol sales for the whole day. Exact dates are set by the Thai Cabinet each year, so check the current year's holiday list before you travel.
