About this month

High season (nationwide generalization)

Still cool season in most of the country, extending the comfortable, dry stretch from January. Toward the end of the month, haze can begin building in the north as the burning season approaches.

Makha Bucha Day falls in February or March, depending on the lunar calendar, and carries a nationwide ban on alcohol sales for the whole day — shops, bars and restaurants alike. Exact dates are set by the Thai Cabinet each year, so check the current year's holiday list before you travel.
