Bangkok's Orange Line: Trains Due Late November, Trial Service Slips to Late 2027

Cities:Bangkok

Operator BEM says the second of its new Orange Line trainsets has completed factory testing in Turkey and is due to arrive in Thailand in late November 2026, roughly a month later than the October target set earlier this year. Once the trains are in the country, they face around six months of system and operational testing before they can carry passengers.

That pushes back the timeline for the long-awaited eastern section of the line, running from Thailand Cultural Centre to Min Buri. BEM expects trial operations to begin in late 2027, with commercial service opening in early 2028. The Mass Rapid Transit Authority’s own estimate is more specific: free public trials from December 2027, followed by fare-paying service from January 2028.

As of August 2026, civil works on the eastern section were fully complete, with rail systems installation at around 72%. The line’s western extension, between Bang Khun Non and Thailand Cultural Centre, remains under construction and is targeted to open separately in 2030.

Anyone planning a commute, property purchase or business around the Orange Line should treat January 2028 as the earliest realistic date for a usable, fare-paying service, rather than the line’s original, now-slipped targets.
