Police Raid Bangkok Mansion Used as Call-Center Scam Base
Cities: Bangkok
At around 4pm on September 16, Thai immigration police raided a rented luxury house in Bangkok’s Bang Bon district after a tip about frequent foreign visitors, arresting 15 suspects of Japanese, Chinese, Taiwanese, and Thai nationality. Investigators said the upper floor had been converted into a Japanese-language call center with soundproof booths, where operators posed as delivery services and then police to pressure victims in Japan into transferring money over supposed criminal investigations. The mansion, reportedly rented for about 900,000 baht a month, also contained fake Japanese police uniforms and badges used to make the calls more convincing, and authorities believe the gang’s alleged organizer remains in Thailand.
