Thailand's Immigration Bureau Launches THIM App for Foreign Visitors

Thailand’s Immigration Bureau released THIM, a mobile app for foreign visitors, on the App Store, Google Play and Huawei AppGallery on August 1, 2026. The launch is a couple of months old, but the app is meant to become the main digital channel for dealing with Thai immigration going forward, starting with the Thailand Digital Arrival Card (TDAC) that every non-Thai national must already file before arrival.

A visitor registers once by scanning their passport, after which later visits need only a handful of fields updated, cutting the process to one to two minutes. The app uses passport-chip reading, facial comparison and encrypted storage, and currently supports English, Russian, Japanese and Chinese, with more languages planned.

THIM does not yet replace other immigration paperwork. The Immigration Bureau has said future versions are meant to add visa extensions, 90-day address reporting and visa-on-arrival processing at participating checkpoints, but as of its August launch the app mainly handles the arrival card and some tourism promotions. By the Bureau’s own figures it had passed 600,000 downloads within about two months. Anyone relying on it for 90-day reporting or extensions should check within the app whether that feature has actually gone live before assuming it is available, rather than turning up at immigration expecting it to already cover everything announced.
