Bangkok Rail Fares to Be Capped at 45 Baht Across All Lines From January 2027
Cities:Bangkok
The Cabinet approved a common-ticket fare structure for Bangkok’s electric rail network in June 2026: from January 1, 2027, a single journey will cost between 17 and 45 baht depending on distance, no matter how many lines a passenger transfers between. You pay one entry fare, capped at 45 baht.
Where the normal fares for a journey would have added up to more than 45 baht, the difference is refunded within three working days through the Pao Tang app or the card used for the trip. The scheme also covers electric rail lines reaching neighbouring provinces.
A government committee met for the first time on September 17, 2026 to prepare the launch, with the Bangkok Metropolitan Administration taking part; agencies are now drawing up the rules for calculating fares and refunds and will run joint tests before the system goes live. For anyone budgeting daily trips across Bangkok, it sets a ceiling on rail costs from the new year — worth checking again close to January 1 in case the start date moves.
