Visa exemption for tourists cut from 60 to 30 days
Thailand's Ministry of Interior replaced the 60-day visa exemption with a 30-day exemption for 60 countries and territories, 15 days for two more, cut the Visa on Arrival list to three, and restricted the exemption to tourism only.

Visa exemption finalized at 60 countries for 30 days, not the 54 originally proposed
The rule that took effect on 15 September 2026 gives 60 countries and territories a 30-day tourist exemption, two a 15-day exemption and three Visa on Arrival, not the 54, three and four of the Cabinet's 19 May 2026 proposal. India and the Maldives moved to the 30-day list, and all 27 EU members are on it.

DTV document rules tightened: proof of permanent residence and a criminal record certificate now required
Since 31 August 2026, Destination Thailand Visa (DTV) applicants must show proof of permanent residence in the country where they apply and a criminal record clearance certificate, replacing the earlier requirement to prove only current location. Thai embassies and consulates have published differing readings of what counts as proof of residence, so requirements now vary by mission.
