Chinatown turns red: dragons, lions, lanterns, food at every step. The date is movable, late January or February, depending on the lunar calendar — which is why it is listed under January here but in a given year can land in either month. In 2027 the new year begins on 6 February, the year of the Goat, with the street celebrations on that day and the eve before it. It is not a Thai public holiday, so shops, offices and transport run normally.
